Round 3 : Race Report : Day 1 : Saturday, 28th Aug 2010
In bright and sunny conditions, the third round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National racing Championship got off to a flourishing start at the Kari Motor Speedway track at Chettipalayam near Coimbatore.
TVS Girling had a stellar first session in the third round with a great move to close the gap on points table to grab top three positions on podium in the first race after its drivers snatched top spots in the qualifying event.
The day commenced with the Formula LGB Swift class race and true to their showing in the qualifying event, S.Narendran had a sigh of relief after a good start. But, he must have been relieved only after the cramped first turn where he managed to forge ahead. Since then,he never relented from his determination not only to win but to win with a good margin. While, Narendran went unchallenged from the second lap till the finish, there was nose to the tail fight for the second, third and fourth positions. This was amongst TVS Girling, Wallace Sports and MARS Racings drivers amongst the 13 cars in the fray.
Though lead kept changing lap after lap, Mumbai’s Ameya Walavalkar managed to beat Delhi’s Saif Mir nearing the finish line for the second spot. The race ended with a note of happiness for the TVS Girling drivers, who clinched the top three positions on the podium. Narendran, who returned a best lap time of 1 min 12.579 seconds, took 18 min.32.233 seconds to cover the 15 laps for the first position. Walavalkar (18:38.363 sec) and Saif Mir (18:40.242 sec) came second and third respectively.
LGB Formula Rolon race witnessed the stiffest competition amongst the three races today. Saran Vikram of MARS Racings, one of the up and coming youngster spelt his intentions clear in the Qualifying event and there was no shift in his minds in the race that was held after about three hours.
Being on the pole, Saran Vikram known for his determination had a solid start and never yielded any room for Meco Motor Sports driver Sarosh Hataria. Sarosh on his part tried whatever trick that he could to go past. However, Saran Vikram nonchalantly had a single goal in his mind in keeping his leadership position until he finished for the first spot, though taking to the chequered flag by fraction of a second. Saran Vikram needed 17 min 42.759 secs, while Sarosh took 17:43.562 secs. Amaron Pro Racing’s Vishnu Prasad, who has been proving himself during the season in Karting too, came third at 18:09.557 secs.

Vishnu Prasad beats Sailesh Bolisetti to take the Pole Position
Round 3 flagged off on Sunday, August 29, 2010 here at Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore
Coimbatore, August 28, 2010 – Chennai racer Vishnu Prasad put in a stunning lap to claim the Pole Position for the 1st race of the 3rd Round of Polo Cup India 2010, at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore, with the best lap time of 1:16:672. Sailesh Bolisetti will start in second position, three tenths down on Prasad. Drivers Munjal Savla, Sahil Shelar and Vikas Anand complete the top 5. Championship leader Karthik Shankar had a close finish in a very competitive time, but will start in 7th position. The only women driver on the grid Alisha Abdullah will start in 14th position.
The qualifiers proved to be an exciting event for the spectators. A close qualifying round was proof that the drivers have learned the in’s and out’s of their cars and understood the track, having raced on it once before. If today’s qualifiers were a taste of what is to come, the 3rd round of the Polo Cup India 2010 is sure to be a nail-biting, adrenaline-pumped affair.

Speaking about winning Pole Position, Vishnu Prasad said, “It feels great to be on pole for first race tomorrow. I have been working hard this whole season and am extremely satisfied with the lap that I put in today. Scoring as many points as I can is definitely the target as we are coming to the second half of the season.”
Sailesh Bolisetti, from Vizag, was second on the grid just three-tenths away from the leader. Sailesh said, “I am not totally satisfied with my lap but it is great to be on the front row. VW has given me a great car to drive this weekend and I will be looking to convert this into a win tomorrow.”
